Carus develops and delivers a business-critical booking platform specialized for the ferry industry. We serve ferry operators globally, providing an ecosystem of integrated solutions that handle millions of bookings annually.

Our platform brings together booking websites and mobile applications, ticket scanners and boarding hardware integrations, APIs and third-party system integrations (payment terminals, port automation, Google Maps, vehicle measurement systems), and comprehensive reporting and analytics capabilities. It is a complete ecosystem designed to make ferry operations smoother and more efficient.

We are a company of approximately 50 people (employees and consultants) with the head office based in Mariehamn, Åland Islands. What defines us is not our size, but our way of working. Carus consists of several functions, including Product, Sales, and Operations. This role is part of the Operations organization, where we are responsible for delivering and evolving the platform in close collaboration with other functions.

About the Role

We are seeking a Team Lead – Product Development to lead and develop our Product Development team.

This role focuses on execution—ensuring that requirements and architecture are translated into high-quality, working software in production. You are responsible for how development work is carried out and delivered. This is a role where you can directly influence how the team works and how we deliver software as we grow.

Prioritization and backlog ownership sit with Planning & Strategy, while this role focuses on how work is executed and delivered.

You will guide agile development practices, coach developers and QA, and ensure that the team delivers consistently and in a way that scales as the product grows.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a cross-functional Product Development team (developers and QA)

  • Structure and improve how development work is planned, executed, and delivered

  • Coach and guide agile ways of working in practice

  • Ensure strong delivery capacity without compromising quality, security, or long-term sustainability

  • Translate requirements and architecture into efficient and maintainable implementations

  • Ensure that development follows agreed security practices and contributes to a secure, stable platform

  • Collaborate closely with:

  • Solution Design (architecture and technical direction)

  • Platform Operations & Automation (deployments and runtime)

  • Customer Service (bugs, feedback, and production issues)

  • Planning & Strategy (priorities and delivery expectations)

  1. Participate in cross-functional forums to ensure alignment between design, development, and operations

Requirements:

  • Experience leading software development teams

  • Strong knowledge of agile development processes

  • Experience coaching developers and QA

  • Solid understanding of modern software development practices

  • Strong collaboration skills across development, architecture, and operations

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in the ferry or transport industry

  • Agile certifications (e.g., Scrum Master)
