If you become unemployed

Start your job search immediately or at the latest on the first day of your unemployment. Also do this after you complete labour market training or a work period on pay subsidy. You can already begin your job search before your unemployment or lay-off period starts.

The fastest and easiest way of starting your job search is to do it online.

Log on to Egen jobbsökning (the My Job Search) service using your online banking identification code or a personal identity card with a chip. Your job search begins as soon as you have answered the questions in the online service and submitted your information.

If you have been a customer earlier, some of the information is already in the system, so you will not have to fill in all the fields.

If you do not have a personal banking identification code or an identity card with a chip, you can start your job search by downloading and printing the Client Application Form. Fill in the application, contact AMS in person and bring your application form.

A personal interview at AMS

Once you have submitted your information, your job search will be valid for 14 days. Next, AMS will work with you to assess your situation and determine the most suitable services. AMS will also issue a labour policy statement for the unemployment fund or the Social Insurance Institution (Fpa) on your eligibility for unemployment benefit.

Unemployment benefit during job search

Unemployment benefit can only be paid from the day you start your job search. The condition for receiving unemployment benefit is a valid registration as a jobseeker.

To receive labour market subsidy, you must have the right for paid employment in Finland based on other than a temporary residence permit. To get unemployment benefit, it is required that you live in Finland. This will be clarified and decided by the payer of the unemployment benefit.

For further information, please visit TE-services.

Unemployment benefits include

  • the earnings-related unemployment allowance
  • the basic allowance
  • the labour market subsidy.

Once you have registered with Ams as an unemployed jobseeker and apply for unemployment benefit, Ams will issue a labour policy statement on your eligibility for the benefit.
